The Top Gets Glued Together

I have taken a break from posting about the Bob's Guitar build.  Actually, I have been making lots of rosettes, none of them pleasing to me.  So, I apologize for the long silent period.  I hope you haven't lost all interest.  But do stay posted, because the best part is happening right now.  The Top.

Today, I shot a straight edge to bookmatch glue the top.  The edge or joint is formed by a hand plane slid along a "shooting board."  The wood lies flat, with the edge to be jointed facing the plane.  The plane is held at 90 degrees to the edge.  Sliding the plane makes a perfect, matched edge for gluing.  No light can shine through the joint if it is to glue up perfectly.  When this is finished, you will not be able to see where the top was joined.  Hopefully, I will be able to find it.

The Shooting Board and my favorite plane - Lie-Nielsen 4 1/2.  The plane lies on its side and the wood lies flat with the edges to be jointed both facing the sole of the plane.

The Top.  Before joining and thinning to about 0.010.
A lovely piece of Lutz Spruce.  This stuff rings like a bell.

The joint has been made, glue added and the joint rubbed together.  Rubbing the joint with glue is almost enough to stick it together forever.  I like to make sure.  Here is the top on a work board.  Now it dries for a day or so.
