Rosette

Glued in pieces of Claro Walnut and purflings.  After the pieces are inset, I routed 3/64" channel around the Walnut segments and inlaid a long piece of purfling of 0.040 BWB.  That way any imperfections at the inside or outside edges of the segments are routed off for the purflings.

Short open time white glue from LMI

The finished rosette and soundhole routed out with the same fixture that made the channel

Pretty good looking.  Once finish goes on top the grain should pop nicely.  The wierd part at the top is covered by the fretboard.  So, I stick in a filler piece just to lock the others in place while I am working on the assembly.

More Steps on the Top

The top is joined and about 0.200" thick.

Thinning a bit to flatten both sides.

Add the outline and locate the sound hole.  The top is about 0.150".  I see lots of silk.  A very good sign.

Forming the channel to receive the rosette.

Nice tool for the job.  Always use a down cut bit for the cleanest cut.

Hmmm.  Not convinced yet...

Blank Check Project | Blank Check Project | CD Baby Music Store

High school friend and very talented musician, Doug Schuler, has released his highly awaited project.

Full disclosure:  I played one of my handmade Courtright Guitars on Track One.  Nevertheless, highly recommended.
